MAUDE JACKSON LANEWAY SEATING & TABLES

This lane is a popular meeting spot in the heart of Claremont. The goal was to make the laneway even more interactive and social by adding small nooks and unique furniture.

It was important for the seating not to take up too much space in the already narrow laneway. So, we situated the seats close to the walls to allow plenty of room for foot traffic through the space.

We also wanted the seating to blend seamlessly with the joyful colours and playful shapes of the custom mural by Australian artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers. We echoed the abstract organic forms with circular tables that feel like they are growing from the walls like mushrooms in a forest.

We believe in using local materials whenever we can. The timber used for this project is Australian Black Butt, a native hardwood that is incredibly durable and long-lasting.

This project expands the alfresco seating area of the local cafe and also offers a rest area and meeting spot for those passing through the laneway. With minimal fixtures, we were able to put the finishing touches on this revitalised laneway and create a colourful space for conversations and coffee in the sunshine.
